Trust is not given easily by him, but Daeron has been an integral part of his court - and his daughter's life - since Lúthien and him were children. Thingol had watched them grow, side by side, singing and dancing with very few cares in the world.
If only life could remain so simple; so perfect.
His eyes close at the first note and he extends an arm, wrapping it around Daeron's shoulders to show his gratitude.
Nor was it given by Daeron. But Thingol had his loyalty, his trust, and his love. He looked up to the king, and to him for new situations, to learn how he should respond. And Luthien was just...perfect. He'd adored her from the start, he remembered. He loved how she'd always dance to his music as soon as she heard it.
He happily leaned into the embrace, song never pausing as he sought to chase the headache away.
He is happy to lead such a kind-hearted young Elf. Daeron had quickly garnered his attention the first time he had sang. Thingol is no Bard, but he knows raw talent when he hears it and it did not hurt matters that the little Elf responsible for said talent was as charming as they come. He had been the one to introduce Daeron to Lúthien - for his daughter had been so small then that he had feared anyone playing too rough with her. Melian had assured him Lúthien was strong, but a father cannot help worrying.
The pair seemed - and continue to seem - a sweet match and so Thingol has, more or less, welcomed Daeron into the family. He cares for his happiness and his well-being; he is also happy to see to any lessons the young Elf is willing to learn. In exchange, all he seeks, now and then, is the peace and enjoyment of his music.
As he expected it would, his headache does fade and he smiles at last, pressing a grateful kiss to Daeron's temple.
"I feel you have refined your healing techniques."
Daeron would claim his kindness was because of Thingol, Melian, and Luthien! He loved that family with everything he was, and felt he was where he belonged. He'd always treated Luthien gently and with more than a little awe- she was just so graceful! even when she really wasn't
He flushed with pleasure at the kiss and compliment. "I am grateful I could help you, my lord! You have so much on your shoulders, you should not be in pain on top of it all."
Thingol, of course, shares Daeron's awe for his little girl - now a beautiful young Elven maiden. But he has been wrapped around her little finger - and toe! - since she was born. It amused him greatly that Melian had worried that he wouldn't be as happy with a daughter as a son. That is, until she found him tucking the newborn girl in his outer robe so she could accompany him for his walks!
"I worry and the tension builds to a breaking point. I must find relief for it or I will be ill." he smiles at Daeron, leaning his head against the tree's bark, "Did I interrupt your conversation with the forest?"
He remembered seeing those walks! He'd done his best to help reassure his queen, singing for her even when he was still so young himself.
Daeron smiled back, humming in understanding. "Then if my music may aid you, I beg of you to call on me as often as it pleases you." He shook his head a little, leaning against the tree and looking up into the branches waving above them. "Could you not hear the enjoyment of my song for you, my King?"
Thingol had always returned with Lúthien giggling or yawning sleepily. Not once had she been ill or in a foul mood. Yet he appreciated little Daeron's efforts and he more often than not had a treasure for the little Elf in one of his pockets - a pretty leaf, an acorn, a bird feather and so forth.
"Your poor voice would be but a thread if I did that!" he watches the sunlight streaming through the leaves above and enjoys the simplicity of nature. It is easy to ignore, but impossible to forget.
"I could. Your voice is sweet, Daeron, and I admit I feared you would wish to leave Doriath in order to make a name for yourself elsewhere with it."
He laughed softly, head tilting back against the tree. "Nay!" he denied joyously. "I could sing all day and night for you and still have voice for more!" And he would be proud to do so if his beloved king asked it of him.
Daeron's joy softened and he dared to tuck himself close against Thingol, affection and devotion in his gaze as he looked up at him. "Doriath is my home and I have no desire to leave you, my King, or the Lady Luthien. My only ambition is to sing and play music for you both, and to serve you as best I may. However I may."
He grinned and wrapped an arm around the young Bard's shoulders. There was always a place for him, tucked against his King.
"So like a proud little bird!" he rested his cheek against Daeron's hair, "You serve us best by seeking your happiness. But you are safe here and that will always be so."
