He couldn't help but be entranced by her. Drawn to her bright light and the joy the lit her heart and shone from her. It hurt that she didn't love him as he loved her, but they retained a strong friendship. He just had to be content with that, though he knew he would watch over her safety. She meant far too much to him for him to do anything less.
Daeron let his music laugh and play with her, swirling around and encouraging her joy and dancing. She was so beautiful, so wild and perfect! It soothed the wild chaos of his heart in moments like these, under the stars Elbereth had once made for them and even now watched over them.
It was good that they had preserved their friendship for she simply could not deny his music. Her feet moved in a wild, yet perfect tandem with each piece he chose - no matter how he changed it. She could sense his creativity as if it was a living, breathing entity and she responded to it accordingly.
She beamed at him, though the expression was shyer than it had once been.
His heart ached, of course. But he'd rather have her friendship than nothing. Daeron took joy just in being near her, playing his music and getting to watch her dance so perfectly. For him, he knew. Selfishly he reveled in it, knowing Beren couldn't do that.
He smiled back at her, letting the music fade, though the tune echoed around them. "She must be." For Luthien was there.
She appreciated him with or without music and she showed as much by touching his cheek lightly with her fingertips. Daeron didn't know - couldn't know - that, though romantic love was not meant for them, the love of friendship was strong in her heart. All he had to do was ask for her company and she would give it.
"I think you made them dance!" and she could not blame them, "I miss your songs when I am away."
She had always been warm and kind. Forgiving when he didn't deserve such a thing from anyone. Daeron felt his heart flutter under her fingertips, unable to help it but he restrained himself from taking her hand. He chuckled for her.
"Only encouraged!" He ducked his head. "And I miss your dancing."
LĂșthien held no ill will against him; neither did Beren. They were whole and what had occurred in the world was in the past. Daeron had not acted wisely, but the heart was not wise. It was often jealous and passionate. Her friend was wild - wilder than most - and she cherished him.
And forgave him.
She sat beside him at those words, smiling gently.
"Then they must enjoy it naturally." like her; like her mother no doubt, "Your friendship I miss more. Are you upset with me? Angry?"
